Improved

Improved refusal codes for ACH payments effective November 2nd

On November 2nd, Rainforest will update the refusal code returned when an ACH payment fails in real-time when attempting to process the payment with the Accelerated ACH feature.

What's changing

Currently, if the payment fails to validate when a frictionless bank validation is performed, then the payment is declined with a refusal code of Risk Decline.

This update will begin declining these payments with one of the following refusal codes:

  • Account Closed: The ACH account is closed.
  • Unsupported Account Type: The ACH account type is not supported, such as a Non Demand Deposit Account.
  • Incorrect Payment Information: The routing number or account number is invalid.
  • Decline: The ACH payment could not be processed.

The new classification of refusal codes will provide additional clarity to the merchant and end user on why an ACH payment can fail in real-time when attempting to the payment.

How this may affect you

Account Closed and Unsupported Account Type are new refusal codes. If your platform ingests refusal codes, then you'll want to update your integration to handle the two new refusal code.

If your platform currently handles any payments that decline with the refusal code of Risk Decline, then you'll want to update your integration to handle the new classifications.
