Payment detail component improvements

Rainforest has released a set of presentation and consistency improvements to the payment detail components. These updates improve readability, align with standard accounting conventions, and make financial details clearer for platforms and merchants.

Effective July 20th, the following changes will take effect:

1. Payment amount allocations
2. Net to merchant language and presentation changes
3. Parenthetical notation for negative values
4. Right-alignment of values

These are presentation-only updates within the Detail Components, such as Payin Details Component and Refund Details Component. No API response fields or webhook payloads were impacted. No action is required from your platform.

Payment amount allocations

For platforms utilizing amount splits, there is a new collapsible “Payment Allocation” breakdown in the payment detail components. This new section lists the the gross amount of the payment followed by the line-item breakdown for the split to the platform and remaining allocation to the merchant. This enhancement delivers clarity to the funding allocation of the payment when processing payments with amount splits.

Net to Merchant

Detail components now consistently display a Net to Merchant field that reflects the net monetary impact of that individual payment to the merchant of record.

Previously, this label displayed as "Paid to Merchant" for merchants on gross billing. This is now consistently labeled as "Net to Merchant" regardless of the merchant's billing type.

For a payin, this indicates what the merchant of record receives after fees and amount splits are applied. For a refund, ACH return, or chargeback, this is the amount debited to the merchant of record for that payment. An updated tooltip is also now available on this field:

"This is the amount debited or credited to the merchant of record for this payment."

Parenthetical notation for negative values (GAAP)

In the detail components, negative monetary values are now presented using parenthetical notation.

For example, a net debit of $76.50 now appears as ($76.50) instead of -$76.50. This convention is the standard presentation in GAAP-aligned financial reporting and improves at-a-glance legibility for values that represent debits or costs to the merchant.

Right-aligned values

All monetary and informational values in record detail panels are now right-aligned. This makes vertical scanning of financial figures easier and brings the layout in line with standard financial table conventions.
