You can easily accept PayPal, Venmo, and PayPal Pay Later payments in Rainforest's Payment Component.
PayPal, Venmo and PayPal Pay Later are convenient options for paying online when an end user has a PayPal or Venmo account and can help increase conversion rates.
Limitations
There are a few limitations to consider when processing payments through PayPal, Venmo and PayPal Pay Later.
Partial authorization
PayPal, Venmo and PayPal Pay Later do not support partial authorizations.
Payins from stored payment methods
PayPal and Venmo payment methods are restricted to the merchant on which the payment was processed on. This means a PayPal or Venmo payment method can only process payments on the originating merchant and cannot be utilized across the platform.
PayPal Pay Later
PayPal Pay Later has additional limitations:
- PayPal Pay Later payment methods can not be used for future recurring payments.
- PayPal Pay Later is not supported for merchants with a Charitable and Social Service Organizations Merchant Category Code.
Payment component
The Payment Component will render three distinct payment method buttons for PayPal, Venmo, and PayPal Pay Later. Selecting one of these payment methods will open the respective modal for the end user to authenticate into their account.
Mobile
On mobile devices, selecting the PayPal, Venmo, and PayPal Pay Later payment methods will open the corresponding PayPal or Venmo app, if installed, for authentication.
Reports
Reporting will display the PayPal or Venmo icon for the payment method, respective of the payment method that the end user selected to process the payment.
Deposit timing
PayPal, Venmo, and PayPal Pay Later payments have their own deposit timing, configured on the merchant and can be viewed in the Merchant details in the Rainforest Platform Portal.
Billing
Billing Profiles include sections for each payment method to manage the fees and rates applied for PayPal, Venmo, and PayPal Pay Later payments.
Merchant onboarding
Terms of service
Your Platform Success Manager will work with you to update your merchants Terms of Service to support PayPal. Once this has been completed, Rainforest can configure your merchants to process PayPal, Venmo, and PayPal Pay Later payments.
PayPal underwriting
Once the platform is enabled for PayPal, Rainforest will attempt to configure each merchant to process PayPal payments.
PayPal must approve each merchant to process PayPal, Venmo, and PayPal Pay Later payments. If a merchant is unable to be automatically configured and requires additional review, Rainforest will reach out to the platform via the provided underwriting email we have on file.
PayPal does reserve the right to decline a merchant from processing PayPal or Venmo payments based on additional underwriting criteria required by PayPal.
Merchants who require additional review or are declined by PayPal, can still be eligible to process Card and ACH payments through Rainforest.
